New Believers Course by Chris and Wendy Nimmo @christianlifeconcepts7667 Lesson 1: God’s Fellowship Plan Psalms 139:14 and John 3:16-17 God's desire for every person in the world —————————————————————— The very reason we were created was so God could have fellowship with us, this is how much He loves us. God has planned an eternity of fellowship with us. God desires our fellowship our communion our sharing together with Him. God very much wants to spend time with us, to talk to us and to listen to us. This can be done by reading His word, praying or talking to Him about anything we are going through in life. God wants to help us to enjoy the life we have and to have an abundant life. We are a creation of God’s love and desire for fellowship. What do you have that an all powerful God does not have? YOUR LOVE and YOUR FELLOWSHIP. God can take care of anything and everything else; He wants you. He desires to spend time with you. You cannot offer anything else of value, but yourself, your heart in fellowship with Him. Relationship and Fellowship ——————————————- From before the beginning of time God made a plan to have fellowship with mankind. The reason He created man was to fellowship with him. Mankind is created with a free will, we have the freedom to choose. We choose if we will fellowship with God, He does not force us into fellowship with Him. To have fellowship with God we must first enter into a relationship with God. Relationship and fellowship are related but they have different meanings. Some examples of relationship are marriage, parents/children, employment. However fellowship is spending time with, sharing, encouraging and being close to another person. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we enter into a relationship with God and then our fellowship with God begins. God changed us on the inside and made our spirit a new creation in Christ Jesus so that the Holy Spirit can live in us, that is the born again experience. With the Holy Spirit now inside us we are able to fellowship with Him. We both listen to the Holy Spirit and speak to the Holy Spirit. A two way communion, a joint fellowship. When we were born again we entered into a relationship with God the Father through Jesus His Son and we became children of God. As children of God we have the right to come into the very presence of God to receive the rights and privileges as His child. Our Heavenly Father loves us as much as He loves Jesus (John 17:23). Our relationship with God is a covenant relationship or like a marriage relationship. Just like in any marriage relationship to enjoy good fellowship you must spend good quality time with the other one in the relationship. If something happens to hurt the fellowship it does not break the relationship. The relationship is still there you just need to work on the fellowship. We need to work on, or develop the fellowship we now have with God, so we can grow in the knowledge of God and of who we now are in Christ. 1 John 1:5-7 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. In these verses it tells us about the importance of fellowshipping with God and also fellowshipping with one another. There are a number of ways that we can fellowship with God, the most common and easiest are to read the word of God and pray or commune with the Holy Spirit. Apart from those ways there is also praising and worshiping God, fellowshipping with other Christians and to be involved in a local church. The more time we spend with God, in His word, in prayer, the more we will get to know Him and understand Him, just like in any relationship. The result of fellowship ———————————— Psalm 91:14-16 God is saying when we will set our hearts on loving Him and living in His presence, holding close to Him, then He will do some things for us. He will deliver us from the evil one, He will set us on high, that means we will be out of reach of the devil. He will do this when we have known His name, that means when we have discovered who God really is by spending time with Him. God doesn’t want us to just know about Him from others, He wants us to know Him personally for ourselves. When we do this we can call on Him and He will answer us, there will be no doubt in our mind that God will hear and answer. He will deliver us in times of trouble and satisfy us with a long and enjoyable life. Start spending time with your Heavenly Father and enjoy the time that you have with Him. Questions —————- Q1.
